Josh Aldrich graduated from the University of Central Missouri (B.A.), the University of California, Santa Barbara (M.A.), and the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (J.D.). His private practice experience included family law and criminal defense. He then joined the Legal Department, Tax & Fee Programs Division, at the Board of Equalization (now the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration), where he remained until joining the Office of Tax Appeals in 2019.
